Aging with grace is the secret but how about the secrets of aging healthily? Let’s see whether we can unravel some of them and talk about the concept of wellness altogether.

What is Wellness?

Wellness is the state of being “well” physically, mentally and also in terms of the social environment that surrounds us. Being and feeling well in all three aspects is called wellness, a state which leads to a life with quality.

World Health Organization points out to the fact that wellness is not only the state of being healhty and strong but also feeling well mentally and socially.

Health and wellness seem to be entwined with each other which brings us to the question: what sort of changes should I be making to age healthily and gracefully, what can do to make wellness my agenda?

Little changes in your life will go a long way to make wellness a part of your day, a topic in your agenda.

It’s Possible to Age Healthily, It’s up to you!

  • Physical activity is the key to a healthy life style. Movement is so important for our muscle health as well our immune system. Consider getting into the right sports activity for your age and physical condition or at least make walking a part of your daily routine.
  • Hydration is essential. The list has no end when the benefits of water is to be mentioned. Have water with you all the time, ideal intake of water, whether it’s two liters or a liter and a half each day, is the key element in a healthy life style.
  • Alcohol and tobacco consumption is known to be the reason for many diseases including cancer as well as pulmonary and respiratory problems.
  • Preventive care is important. Get checked regularly so that no matter how big or small, problems can be detected in case you have any, which allows you to get help sooner than later.
  • Eat well. Regardless of age, try and stay away from packed or junk food and watch your weight as it has a significant role in your overall health.
  • Spend enough time with your loved ones. A healthy life is actually a happy life. Family, friends and loved ones have major impact on your health because happy moments with them help you maintain your good health. Try and share your problems or worries too. Your loved ones are not there only for laughter and sunshine but worries and headaches.
  • Doing puzzles, reading the paper or reading books, any kind of hobby are the ways of staying connected with life and will help you age better. A healthy life style and overall wellness are the keys to avoid diseases like dementia or Alzheimer’s.
